Just you and me

Seizing the moment ... that's what I did last night and I'm so glad I did. You know how it is as a mom - there's always a TON of things we COULD and SHOULD be doing. Earlier in the week Kate and I decided that we wanted to go see the "High School Musical Jr." play put on by the Intermediate school. Then yesterday, I almost cancelled - grouchy kids, I was tired, we were getting ready for company to come, etc., etc. But I decided Kate and I really needed this night out - just the two of us. So, off we went!

Afterwards we decided to get a treat and yes, I even suggested that we eat inside. Normally I'd say, "We've got to get home. It's past your bedtime." But I didn't. What can I say? I'm trying.

Thanks for a fun night sis! You were a great date and I loved laughing and being silly with you. I hope we'll always be close and that you'll always remember how much I love you!

Salt & Pepper Girls

Our good friends, Ben & April, spent the night last night on their way home to California. They're actually more like family and we really wished we lived closer to each other. They're the kind of friends that we only see a few times a year, but when we're together it's like we've never been apart. We've been through a lot together, especially the challenge of becoming parents. But that all seems like a distant memory now, especially when we look at these two faces ... our little salt and pepper girls! Amelie and Emersyn are exactly 3 weeks apart. Could they be any cuter?

We love you guys! Thanks for coming to stay. We'll look forward to our next visit together!

What was I saying about him being 100% boy?

Didn't I JUST mention in my previous post how my son is 100% boy? Well, let me present you with some proof, some hard evidence, if you will. Exhibit #1:

THIS, my friends, is how my son come home from school today. I opened the door and wondered if he had been attacked by lions!

Now, I will admit that when he was all dressed and ready for school I noticed a small, VERY SMALL, hole. Hey, don't judge me! It's the end of the school year and I DON'T want to buy more jeans, ok? So, off he went. When I asked him what had happened, he said with a snicker, "I just felt like tearing them mom." GOOD GRIEF SON! What must people have thought? "Boy, maybe we should start a collection for the Hardmans. They really need to buy that kid some pants!" If he had been a girl, it would have been immodest!

But honestly, Josh and I had a really good laugh! In fact, we cut the rest of the leg and I let him wear them the rest of the day. Kate wanted to know why I thought it was so funny. "So, it's okay for HIM to tear his pants!" she protested. Today Kate, it is ok! This is just what 7 year old boys do ... and you can't help but love them!

Latest happenings

It seems like life is rushing by WAY too fast and I've determined that that's not about to change. Some days I feel like I don't do a very good job of savoring the moment, but I do try. I am also realizing more and more that the laundry, dusting, phone calls, etc. can all wait, but these little people won't. They're growing up right in front of my eyes. So, my goal this summer, when life slows down a little bit (no dance, sports, school, etc.) is to spend more quality time with them. In the mean time, here's a little glimpse into what has been happening at our house lately.

Kate is no longer a little girl - she's a tween, you know? Just ask her! She loves to spend time with friends, write on her blog, play the piano and dance. Thankfully she still enjoys spending time with her little brother and she jumps at the chance to "tend" Eme. I'm trying to make more of a point to tell her this, but sis ... I'm proud of you!

Josh man, or J-Dog as we sometimes refer to him, is as funny and energetic as ever! There is NO question that this kid is 100% boy! He loves sports, school, sports, spending time outside, making noise, riding his bike and did I mention ... SPORTS!

Last week I got to go on a field trip with him and it was fun to see him in action. I use to think he was going to be shy. What was I thinking? This kid is anything BUT shy! He seems to know the name of every student at school and has about 10 girls that are constantly trying to get his attention. Does that make me nervous? YES!

Last, but certainly not least ... Miss Emersyn! She is growing and changing SO much! She has a little girl laugh, can wave bye-bye and loves to clap her hands. She isn't a huge fan of food yet (she's more of a bottle girl), but she has decided that she likes Cherrioes. She's standing up to everything and I know that it's only a matter of time before she's walking. YIKES! Her smile lights up the room and she has every one of us wrapped around her finger!

As for Greg and I ... we're busy with church, work, and life, but we wouldn't change a thing. We waited far too long for this and we're loving every minute of it. Thanks for sharing the journey with me hon! I love you!

Happy Easter 2010!

One of my favorite times of the year is here ... Easter! We headed to Salt Lake to celebrate with our families and even though it felt like Christmas (since we woke up to snow on Easter morning), we still had a great time!

Baskets full of surprises from the Easter bunny, a huge Easter dinner, and Nana's annual Easter egg hunt all made for a fun day!

We also got to meet up with Ben and April and hold their new little addition. It was fun to see you guys and CONGRATULATIONS! And finally ... we met up with the Hardman side of the family for pizza, games and fun before we headed back home.

Thanks for a fun weekend everyone! We love you!

Today I'm thinking about ...

Today I am thinking about this amazing man ...

my Grandpa. He passed away back in December, but today is his birthday and I miss him. I think about him alot, especially when I crack open a can of diet coke, when my little boy wants milk poured on the top of his cake, and a million other times. He was, and always will be, a very special part of my life. How grateful I am to know that I'll get to see him again someday.

I love you Grandpa Wally!

Little League Begins

Last night was a rather momentous occasion for our family ... our little man became an official little league baseball player! And to top it off ... he got his first base hit!

To say that Josh has been excited for baseball to start would be a gross understatement! He woke up yesterday and began to chant, “Let’s go Dodgers! Let’s go!” He also wanted to know if his dad had a Dodgers shirt. Uhh! No! But perhaps we'll have to change that.

When he stepped up to bat the first time, he struck out. The next time up he hit 2 foul balls and then ... the big moment came - his first hit! He stood there for a second, stunned that he actually connected with it. Then he made a mad dash for 1st base! I don’t know who was more excited ... Josh or his dad. As he stood on base, watching the next batter, you could tell how thrilled he was. He was bouncing up and down, grinning from ear to ear! I honestly felt like crying I was so happy for him!

Even the weather couldn't deter our team of 7 year olds. The day before it had been a gorgeous 80 degrees. Not last night! It was VERY windy, raining and cold. But they had a GREAT time and went on to win! Way to go Dodgers!

It will probably sound weird, but I felt like I had taken another step as a mom. To be at the little league fields, snack shack and all, watching my little boy, was awesome! I remember spending MANY, MANY nights at the ballfields watching my 3 younger brothers. And now, here I am, watching MY little man play ball. I couldn't have been prouder!

We love you #4! You did great! Here's to a fun season ahead!
