Blessings

Today was one of those days when it seemed like our whole family was grouchy. I felt like I spent the entire day playing referee to the kids. Then Greg came home feeling a bit under the weather and not all that pleasant and admitedly, I wasn't all that happy myself come 7:00 tonight. So, we ended the day by sending everyone to their own corners, hopeful that a good night's rest and the dawning of a new day will bring happy smiley faces to our kitchen table tomorrow. But even after a day like today ... I am SO very blessed!

Big News!

We have big news at our house ... Josh-man got glasses! When I took him in for his Kindergarten check-up, they gave him an eye exam. Low and behold, his vision is 2400 in his left eye. Thankfully he's VERY excited about wearing them. In fact, his big sister is a little jealous that she doesn't get any. Oh, the joys of sibling rivalry! Anyway ... glasses or not Josh ... YOU ARE ONE HANDSOME DUDE!

Where did the month of May go?

Holy cow! I am SO behind on blogging. What I want to know is where did the whole month of May go? WOW! I'm a little overwhelmed. We've had lots going on apparently, so I will attempt to include everything without making this the world's longest entry. Here goes!

The month of May began with a Mother/Daughter RS Enrichment Luau. What a fun night! Since I had been serving as the Enrichment Counselor, I was in on the planning and thus, Kate knew about it for 2 months in advance. She was EXTREMELY excited and asked me every week when the Luau was coming up! Thanks sis for being my date that night. I treasure the one on one times that I have with you!

The very next morning, Josh and I got to go on a field trip with the 2nd Grade to our city's "Cotton Days" festival. I felt like I had stepped right into a Norman Rockwell picture ... complete with tractors, farm animals, potato sack races and a tour through the 1st school in town. It was great! Then we headed to the park to enjoy our sack lunches and have some playground time. By the end, I was thankful I could go home and put my feet up instead of heading back to the classroom like the teachers. Thanks Miss Lamb!

Next up ... more t-ball games! I must admit, I thoroughly enjoy watching Josh play and from what we can tell, he loves it, too. However, he recently told me that "mitting" was "boring 'cause you just wait and get hotter and hotter." All I can say is, he hasn't seen anything yet ... we have games until the end of June. By then we'll all be complaining.

Our next fun event was Kate's class opera. Yes, you heard me correct ... her class wrote their own opera. They came up with the setting, the characters, script, music and the set. It was incredible! The title of the opera was "Forever Friends" and it was about some huskies and wolves in the Artic Tundra who decided to look for a new cave. Upon finding what appeared to be the "perfect" cave, the huskies went inside, only to discover dragons. Long story short, the dragons, huskies, and wolves all became friends and discovered that friends are more important than things. From the looks of things, we may have an actress on our hands! Great job Kate!

We also had Kate's ballet recital this month, which is always a treat. My cute mom and little sister came down and in between rehearsals and performances, we managed to squeeze in some shopping. (Thanks ladies!)

Finally, we had Josh's 2nd preschool graduation. What a kick! Josh and a few of his classmates are HUGE Utah Jazz fans, as is their teacher, Mrs. Clark. So, as they began to prep for the program, the boys asked Mrs. Clark to introduce them like they were Jazz players. Despite her embarrassment, she consented and made the day of these 4 or 5 little boys. Just imagine ... "Joooooooooooosssssshhhhhh Haaaaaarrrrrdddddmmmmmaaaaannnnn!

So, there you have it ... the Hardman happenings for May. To close, I'll quote a line from one of the most popular movies at our house (High School Musical 2) and say, "What time is it? Summertime! It's our vacation!" School is officially out as of today. Yahoo! Let the sleeping in begin!

Celebrate being a girl day!

I don't know about the rest of you, but Mother's Day is really NOT one of my favorite holidays. For many, MANY years, I HATED Mother's Day ... refused to go to church, spent most of the days prior to and after sobbing ... HATED it! In fact, I know quite a few women who ALSO despise Mother's Day and not because we don't have fantastic mothers who we adore.

Many, MANY women (probably most of us) feel inadequate in our role as mother and sometimes come home from church on Mother's Day feeling even worse. Many, like myself for so many years, really truly want to be mothers, but aren't. Others have lost their mother and therefore, Mother's Day is a sad day for them. So, I am proposing (in my own little blogging world) that we change it from "Mother's Day" to "Celebrate being a girl day!" How does that sound? That appeals to us all, doesn't it? Hmmm ... how could we go about getting that officially changed?

Anyway ... since it is Mother's Day (or Celebrate being a girl day) I want to recognize all of the fantastic women and girls in my life!

Mom ... You are courageous, caring, generous, kind, spiritual and simply put ... AMAZING! I love you SO much and am eternally thankful for you!

To my little sister! Am, if I could have handpicked someone to be my sister and BEST friend there is no doubt in my mind that I would have chosen YOU! I love you beyond words!

To my beautiful little girl ... You are the answer to my prayers and the light of my life! The first time I held you in my arms was perhaps the greatest day of my life! I love you sis!

Grandma Murph ... I hope you know what an impact you have had on my life! I love you dearly and am so grateful for your example. I feel so blessed that you and Grandpa have not only been a huge part of my life, but a part of Kate and Josh's lives, too.

To my "sisters" (aka sister in laws) and incredible second mom (Greg's mom) ... thank you for being such special women in my life! Though we are family through marriage, I couldn't have asked for better ladies to be a part of my world. Hug, hug, kiss, kiss!

To all of the other AWESOME women that I am so blessed to be associated with ... my aunts, cousins, numerous friends ... I love you all! EACH of you, whether I talk to you every day or haven't seen you in years, plays an important part in my life. I love you and hope you know how special you are to me.

Finally ... I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight without including two other tremendous women. Because of them and their courage, strength and faith, I am able to celebrate Mother's Day today. I know for a fact that we must have been friends before we came to earth and you agreed to help bring my babies into my life. I love you both and know that we will be FOREVER FRIENDS!
