First Day of 3rd Grade

Today was a very exciting day at our house. Kate started 3rd Grade and Josh went to meet his teacher. (His big day is tomorrow when he actually goes to Kindergarten. Tune in to see how I do putting my baby on the bus for the first time.)

Katelyn has been SO excited about school! We had a fashion show the other day to decide exactly what the perfect outfit would be for the first day. And suddenly she has opinions about what is and is NOT cute. Thankfully we agree on most everything. Yesterday we had a big talk about how we had to get up early, make our bed, get dressed, etc., etc. We set her alarm and prepared for the battle of trying to get her out of bed. But much to my delight, when I got up she had already made her bed, gotten dressed and was ready for breakfast. AMAZING! She practically ran into her class and I had to remind her that I needed a little love before she headed off to class. She came home and said she had a great day and likes her new teacher, Mrs. Tsosie. So, we're off to a good start.

Later this afternoon I took J-man to meet his cute new teacher, Miss Cardon. All day long he's been saying, "FINALLY Mom! Summer is over!" He is EXTREMELY excited to be a big kid and ride the bus with his sister. He's been wearing his backpack most of the day and I'm sure will be up at the crack of dawn, ready for his first official day. I'm so grateful that they both love school and aren't too nervous. I must admit, I've had butterflies today and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

There's just something exciting about the first day of school. As my mom said, "there's a first day of school smell." New shoes, new clothes, new backpacks, etc. There's also a feeling in the air ... excitement, nervousness, sad AND happy moms, all mixed into one exciting day! So, off we go to start a new year!
