Spring Break in sunny San Diego

Last week we took a much needed family vacation to San Diego for spring break. It was the perfect time of year to go because the weather wasn't too hot and there weren't crowds of people. But the best part was just having time together as a family without work, phones, tv, homework, etc.

Sometimes I think that the kids enjoy staying im the hotel as much as anything! They loved the bunkbeds, eating pizza in our room and watching movies after a long day of walking.

We decided to hit Seaworld this trip because it's been a few years and it was a lot of fun. We took our time and just let the kids spend as much time as they wanted at each place. Eme, like me, enjoyed just sitting and watching everything - the people and the animals. Greg, the super dad, volunteered to go on every "wet ride" that there was and even endured the roller coaster 5 times in a row!

I LOVE almost everything about California, especially the ocean, the boats and visiting with our good friends, Ben & April, in Carlsbad. The kids and I have been telling Greg that we all want a beach house in California (if only it were that easy, right?), but he (and April) remind me that we do - their house! Our visit was way too short and I miss you like crazy, April. Thanks for being such great friends!

On Saturday we decided to visit the U.S.S. Midway Naval Ship. Greg and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it. Eme and I ... not so much! I think our plan for next time will be to drop Greg and the older kids off there and Eme and I will go shopping. (Just kidding - kind of!) Don't get me wrong. It's a neat place to visit. But I, for one, do NOT enjoy reading every single sign about every nut, bolt and engine piece on the ship. Not my cup of tea. But it was cool and the kids loved it!

There were lots of fun times on this trip, but two of the most memorable were things that the kids said. As usual they were a great source of entertainment and laughter for Greg and me. When we were driving around close to the beach, I heard Josh say from the backseat, "I just love this place! It's like paradise!" That it is son!

On our first morning in San Diego, we needed to run by Target to get some things. On our way there, we were stopped at a light and across the intersection there was a strip club with big signs that said "Nude Show" and "Nudie Cuties." Greg and I made eye contact and wondered if the kids would notice. All of a sudden we heard Kate say, "Nude show? What's that?" We explained that sometimes people pay to go see other people take their clothes off. Thankfully they were disgusted by that thought, but they spent the rest of the day giggling and saying, "Nudie cuties! Nudie cuties!" Thanks for the laughs guys and thanks for a great vacation!
