Special Day

Today is a very special day for Greg and I. On this day, 10 years ago, we received one of the greatest letters of our lives. It started off with 3 simple little words ... "It's a girl!"

Just weeks before we had all anxiously held our breath as we entered a new millennium. Remember all the hype over Y2K? What I remember most was wondering if I would ever be a mom and I specifically remember thinking, "Wow! What will my life be like 10 years from now?" And then, just like that my life was changed forever!

I think that the Lord knew that I was at the end of my rope. He knew that I was really doubting whether or not he was listening to my prayers for all of those years. But in reality, he was just telling me to wait. It wasn't the right time ... until January 20, 2000 - the day I learned that I would in fact be a mom.

The very next week we met an amazing young woman and we instantly loved her. I don't think that I have ever been as nervous as I was that day, but as soon as I saw her I felt calm and peaceful. And then a week after that I held my baby girl for the first time. That's right ... all in two weeks I went from utter despair to complete joy!

I love this little girl, or "tween" as she now refers to herself, beyond description. From the moment she entered my life, I KNEW that we were meant to be a family! She has always been loving, funny, smart, stubborn, happy and a ton of fun to be around. I truly cannot imagine my life without her.

So Sis ... I'm thinking about you today and I'm counting my blessings that we were blessed to get a letter 10 years ago with those simple words ... "It's a girl." Here's a few other simple words ... WE LOVE YOU!
